The Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia announces the completion of two additional important projects at St. George Cathedral in Stockholm as part of its continuing care for the maintenance, beautification, and liturgical enhancement of this historic Cathedral.
A new, modern microphone and sound system has now been installed and specially adapted to the Cathedral’s acoustic characteristics.
The new system significantly improves sound quality and enables the faithful to hear the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Services, the sermon, and other events held in the Cathedral with greater clarity.
New carpets have also been installed. They were selected with particular care to harmonize with the Cathedral’s architecture and aesthetic character, enhance its dignified appearance, and preserve the prayerful atmosphere befitting this sacred space.
These projects are the latest in a series of improvements undertaken in recent years to preserve and enhance St. George Cathedral. The Cathedral is the spiritual and administrative center of the Holy Metropolis and one of the most important focal points of the Orthodox presence in Scandinavia.
Caring for a historic Cathedral is not a one-time undertaking. It is a continuing ministry that requires love, responsibility, effort, and substantial financial resources. On the occasion of the completion of these projects, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia extends a heartfelt invitation to the friends, parishioners, donors, and benefactors of the Holy Metropolis to help cover their cost, each according to his or her ability.
Every gift, regardless of its amount, is a valuable contribution and a tangible expression of love for the Church and its Cathedral. The history of St. George Cathedral in Stockholm is inseparably linked to the faith and generosity of people who, at different times, regarded the Cathedral as their spiritual home and contributed, each according to his or her means, to its maintenance, adornment, and advancement.
Today, we too are called to continue this blessed tradition of giving. The Cathedral belongs not only to the present. It is a precious inheritance entrusted to us by those who came before us, and we have a duty to pass it on to future generations in an even more dignified and functional condition, worthy of its sacred mission.
By helping cover the cost of the new sound system and carpets, the friends and benefactors of the Holy Metropolis will take a meaningful part in this shared effort and make another valuable contribution to our historic Cathedral.
His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Elaia, and the Holy Metropolis of Sweden express in advance their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who respond to this appeal.
May the Holy and Glorious Great Martyr George the Trophy-Bearer, patron and protector of our Cathedral, intercede for all its donors and benefactors, their families, and their loved ones, and may the Lord repay a hundredfold every offering of love made to His house.
St. George Cathedral is our common spiritual home. Whatever we offer for its adornment becomes part of its history and its continuing mission.
