The Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia joyfully announces to the Christ-loving faithful of the Mother Church in Scandinavia that the new carved wooden canopy of the Epitaphios has recently been received.
This work, of exceptional craftsmanship and high aesthetic quality, continues the series of carved wooden furnishings—including the iconostasis, the chanters stands, and the episcopal throne—which were installed in August of the past year, 2025.
It will adorn the Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm during the sacred and solemn period of Holy Week.
This venerable work is the fruit of the efforts and pastoral care of the Holy Metropolis for the enhancement of liturgical life and the cultivation of ecclesiastical ethos and tradition.
It was crafted by the same woodcarving workshop in the city of Ioannina, Greece, that produced the aforementioned works.
Given that the cost of constructing and acquiring the canopy is significant—amounting to fifteen thousand euros (€15,000), or 163 375 Swedish kronor—the Holy Metropolis extends a heartfelt appeal to all devout faithful to contribute, according to their means, toward the completion of this project.
