PROGRAM OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF THE SAINT GEORGE CATHEDRAL OF STOCKHOLM

On the occasion of the completion of fifty (50) years since the transfer/donation of the Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm (Birger Jarlsgatan 92, 11420 Stockholm) from the “Catholic Apostolic Church” to the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia, it is announced with pleasure that the Holy Metropolis is organizing two days of anniversary celebrations, according to the following program:

Saturday, May 2, 2026

  • 5:00 p.m. Paschal Vespers, presided over by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Elaia, with the participation of the Very Reverend Archimandrite Bartholomew, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou of Mount Athos, and clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Sweden.
  • 6:00 p.m. Lecture by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Bartholomew, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou of Mount Athos, on the topic: “The Power of Prayer in the Contemporary World.”
  • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Reception at the Cathedral Fellowship Hall.

Sunday, May 3, 2026

  • 9:15 a.m. Hierarchical Chorostasia, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
  • 9:45 a.m. Hierarchical Concelebration of the Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
  • Sermon by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Bartholomew, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou, Mount Athos.
  • Memorial service for the founders and benefactors, as well as for all those who have served as clerhymen at the Cathedral.
  • 11:30 a.m. Presentation by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Elaia of the bilingual Commemorative Anniversary Tomos/study by His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden, entitled: “Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm.”
  • Concluding remarks by His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
